In some wonderful news from the team at Our World In Data, the scale of Greece's energy transition away from Coal has been revealed.

"The chart shows that just over a decade ago, almost half of the country’s power came from coal. This has now fallen to 6%.

As a result, the country’s CO2 emissions from coal have fallen by nearly 90% from their peak, and national emissions as a whole have halved."

This outstanding result should be a reminder of the great potential of solar and wind to replace older, non-renewable, more polluting energy production like coal. Australia, with it's abundance of both wind and year round sunshine is perfectly placed to make a successful transition ourselves - and we should make every effort to make the transition as swiftly as possible.
