Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria (KABV) and Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) have announced the formation of a three-year strategic partnership on 22 March 2023. The partnership is focused on reaching more Victorians to help them understand their obligations under Victoria’s environment protection laws and empower them to contribute to a more sustainable, resilient and beautiful Victoria. Since 1968, KABV has been working with communities to protect and enhance the environment and by partnering with EPA, both organisations can amplify their messages and encourage Victorians to “do the right thing” when it comes to reducing litter and waste.

Olivia Lynch, CEO of Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria says there is a clear alignment between KABV and EPA’s purpose, values and outcomes when it comes to the environment. “This partnership will allow KABV and EPA to reach and encourage more people to take positive action when it comes to the environment and to increase our impact”, she said.

Established in 1971, EPA is committed to protecting the health of our communities and environment through the prevention of harm from pollution and waste. EPA Victoria CEO Lee Miezis said the partnership was an exciting venture that would mean more Victorians would understand their legal obligations to the environment. “The GED has been part of Victoria’s environment protection laws for over a year now. It means all Victorians have a legal responsibility in reducing the risks to community and environment from pollution and waste. We are pleased to be in partnership with Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria to really reach Victorians and help them to understand how they can play their part”. Both partners are committed to common values and opportunities to have a truly meaningful and rich partnership. These include but are not limited to; citizen science projects, sponsorship of the annual Tidy Towns and Cities - Sustainability Awards, community planting days and public awareness and behavioural change campaigns to achieve our shared purpose of protecting the health of our communities and environment.
